"Reforms and Issues in School Mathematics in East Asia - Sharing and understanding mathematics education policies and practices" (edited by Frederick K. S. Leung & Yeping Li)
https://www.sensepublishers.com/product_info.php?products_id=1046&osCsid...

In series: New Directions in Mathematics and Science Education
ISBN 978-94-6091-227-6 hardback
ISBN 978-94-6091-226-9 paperback
June 2010, 256 pages
The book contains 14 chapters contributed by 20 scholars in mathematics education from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
Efforts to improve students' learning of mathematics have led to sustained research interest in search of excellence in educational policy and approaches that are practiced in different education systems, especially those high-achieving education systems in East Asia. However, understanding of educational policies and practices in East Asia has remained fragmented and largely unclear to outsiders. This book is published with a focus on educational policies and practices in "Mathematics Curriculum" and "Teacher Education" in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. Together with the recently published theme issue of ZDM on exemplary mathematics instruction and its development in the same six education systems (Li & Shimizu, 2009), this book aims to help readers develop a better understanding of educational policies and practices in school mathematics that are valued in selected high-achieving education systems in East Asia.

US: Common Core State Standards Released
"The standards outline what students should know in each grade, from elementary school through high-school graduation. Many states are expected to adopt the standards, but others such as Virginia, Texas and Alaska say they will not participate. The standards took a year to develop and led to more than 10,000 public comments."
